Motuihe Island is close to Auckland and has lovely bays and beaches. It has varied history from being settled by Maori, the host for the quarantine station for 50 years and a prisoner of war camp in WW1. In addition it was a naval training camp. Today it is part of the Department of Conservation and is being lovingly restored as nature reserve by the Motuihe Trust. Swimming, bird watching, walking, , exploring history - all in one day.
