Welcome to our website. First let us explain why we have a website. We have worked hard together setting goals, living life, building a family and trying to make a difference to the world around us. We have navigated through a lot of change, challenges and benefited from the richness of friends and family and our educational opportunities. We were each one of the first in our extended family to complete High School and go to University. This education provided us with career and life choices that others often do not have.
We have come to realise that our strength comes from having a personal purpose and although our personal purpose is slightly different to each other, as a couple we believe together our personal purposes create "Focusing Moments" . These focusing moments connect us to others and to lifelong learning. In a world that demands our attention 24/7 we need to learn to slow down and make connections with the world in which we live.
For both of us our hobby of photography helps us do this. It helps us connect with people, place and occasion. This website helps us showcase our photos and connections. We do not see ourselves as professional photographers. We use photography to practice mindfulness and connection.
Through this website we also aim to share our insights on leadership and life as we navigate through the ups and downs of our own journey. Check out the blog page.
We are proud parents of Kirsten and our son in law Matt. In 2020, a year we all found challenging, we welcomed our granddaughter Evelyn into the world. Watching the wonder in her eyes helps reinforce the importance of focusing on what really matters. It is Evelyn's generation that is counting on us all to do better.

Jacki Johnson I learned to cope with change early. At the age of 6 we immigrated from Liverpool England by ship leaving extended family behind. From this time I have learned to be brave, face into change and understand what we need to thrive and strive. My early career was as an Occupational Therapist and then later as a Board Director and Executive in the Insurance sector. Each role has either helped individuals recover from serious injury or communities to recover after a disaster. This experience has helped me realise my personal purpose is based on helping organisations and individuals thrive and strive after unanticipated events. I currently Co Chair the UNEPFI and Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative, and I am a Non Executive Director of Community First Credit Union. I also mentor leaders and provide strategy consulting. All aiming at helping the business sector make a difference to society. I have commenced my Phd candidature at UOW and now face a new learning opportunity as I build my research skills. I realise to be most effective I need to be more present . To help with this I use photography to focus on what is around me and I enjoy bushwalking and exploring new environments. I used to say my best role is that of being Kirsten's Mum but being Evelyn's Grandmother is very special ! |
Michael Johnson I grew up in a family with 7 siblings. Circumstances meant we would move nearly every year. On the odd occasion I would return from school to find our belongings loaded onto the back of a truck for another move. I was never able to form roots. Along with the move of home came a move of school leading to a disruption to my education. As an adult this has had a profound effect on helping me to understand how childhood experiences can impact on our adult selves and the need to define who we want to be and seize the opportunities. It was through determination and support that I was fortunate to undertake my General Registered Nursing Certificate and my Bachelor of health Management. It was around this time I proudly embraced my Aboriginal ancestry and graduated with my ancestry being recognised! I later graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Health. Embracing my Aboriginal ancestry and understanding its importance to who I am and the strength it provides me in knowing where I come from. My daughter Kirsten and granddaughter Evelyn are both proud of their ancestry and connections to Bundjalung and Yuin country. I mentor others in understanding where they come from and how to use this as a place of strength. I am proud to be involved in Not For Profit in governance roles, particularly with Homelessness in the Illawarra . I have a keen interest in photography. I focus on physical fitness where I have competed in Marathons, through this learning to be in the moment |
